UPSIDE Foods Internship

For the summer of 2022, I was hired as a process automation engineer for a fast growing, high-tech company developing sustainable cultured meat in Berkeley CA.

During my time there, I worked with senior engineers to integrate various pieces of equipment and instrumentation into Rockwell FactoryTalk system, worked with end users from cross functional teams to create SCADA graphics and PI dashboards, and created/updated engineering specification documents. My skills using the software grew to the point where I developed new methods of producing effective and impressive graphical tools. By the end of the internship, I was even asked to present and walk through these methods to my colleagues. The dashboards and systems I designed are already seeing extensive use throughout the company.

I also automated the cell R&D processes at the company by designing and engineering multiple robotics modules. These projects demanded advanced 3D product design skills, knowledge of mechanical systems, and a knowledge of industry-standard manufacturing practices. After having my designs reviewed by many senior mechanical engineers in the industry, I was able to design cheap, durable, and efficient mechanisms that are presently integrated into the R&D facilities. I achieved all of this while still completing my main duties as a Process automation engineer.
