Solar Tracking Array

During the spring semester of 2022, I was the leader of a team of 7 mechanical engineers performing and completing many experiments and projects. One such project challenged us to design, fabricate, and program a solar tracking array in 6 hours of lab time.

​

We were only provided with the following items:

​

  • Arduino

  • Solar cell

  • Potentiometer

  • 2 motors

  • Adafruit motor shield

  • Cadmium resistor (photoresistor)

  • Breadboard

  • ADS1015 Analog to Digital converter

​

 

Skills learned/improved by the end of the project:

​

  • Arduino programming

  • Electrical engineering

  • Product design

  • PCB designing and manufacturing

  • Optimizing energy consumption

  • Hardware fabrication and validation

  • Project management
